Torbay’s Leisure & Lifestyle program is always evolving to keep with the most modern and practical Diversional Therapy program. That is why we introduced a Pet Therapy program into both of our facilities, giving a more home like feel. Pet Therapy is becoming more popular in Aged Care facilities as the benefits from research are starting to become known. A pets, animals and children are a large part of peoples life, Torbay feels strongly about providing these experiences to our residents daily Life.
We would like to introduce Miss Molly, who visits our Residents on a Thursday at Parklands each week, providing comfort, love and affection to our residents. Miss Molly has been with us for a little while now and the impact she has had not only on our palliative residents who love her to sit and cuddle with them. She is always putting a smile on everyone’s face as she wonders through the home wearing her little Volunteer Badge proudly.
With our new dementia wing extensions now complete here at Torbay and the increase in resident’s numbers, we have been ever so lucky to now welcome Bridgette. Our specially trained Therapy Dog. Bridgette has really worked wonders with her presence, reducing the emotional and behavioural challenges that sometime presents itself with Dementia conditions, with residents fostering a warm and nurturing attitude towards the dogs.
Our visiting pets all go through a strict screening process and we have a strict pet policy to adhere too. All visiting pets are up to date with vaccinations, have been properly trained and constantly assessed for cleanliness to ensure an optimal experience for our residents.
